On the flip side, she can become strict and unwavering when it comes to her self-declared mission. Serena strives hard to keep the friends she has, and as such is dedicated almost solely to keeping them happy. She is quite a cheerful person, content with her current lot in life.

Family Statistics
Mother: Helen Regina Johnson: Born June 12, 1957 in London, Ontario. Helen, although she looks after her daughter and tries to do what’s right, is very hung up in the past, and rather jaded. She divorced her husband when Serena was seven and, after a series of relatively short-term relationships, is currently sharing an apartment with another woman.
Father: Maximilien “Max” George Reine: Born March 4, 1957 in St. James, Ontario. Max tries to do what’s right, but isn’t very good after looking after himself and is sort of dependant upon other people to get by, be they his parents or his daughter. He has a distinct problem with alcohol, which doesn’t help matters. He is a devoted practitioner of what might be termed “New Age” stuff; in this regard Serena continually has to keep an eye on him to make sure he isn’t duped.

Background
Although Serena’s home life was not pleasant – her parents divorced when she was seven and there was a drawn-out custody battle – she, strangely, did not mind. She was cheerily cooking meals for her father by the age of eight, and did not seem to be upset with this turn of events. Serena mostly grew up alone, not bothering to make many friends at school. Her classmates were perfectly fine with avoiding her, since she was always seen as “weird”.

She would occasionally make statements which seemed odd; although her mother attributed it to an overactive imagination, her father became convinced she was an “indigo child” (this was, incidentally, a big factor in her parents’ divorce; her mother had “grown out” of that particular philosophy, and the two of them clashed over how to raise her).

She was similarly alone during high school, losing a few of the already sparse friends as they grew up and made new friends. She didn’t mind, though. Serena was average in high school, though she appeared to have a particular affinity for the arts; she was part of the Art Club and participated in two school plays (in grades ten and twelve, respectively). Music lessons were her particular favourite, even though she didn’t care too much about the flute; she was more interested in the teacher, a man by the name of Mr. Salucci. (Unfortunately, he left at the end of tenth grade). She graduated with a simple award for the highest mark in Visual Art, but that was it. She hadn’t applied for any scholarships, never showed any real desire to have postsecondary education, and this caused her to be labelled as “unfocused” and “uncertain about her future” by the counsellors, charges which she ignored.

Serena moved out when she was twenty, finally growing tired of continually taking care of her father; her mother said she could live with her permanently if she wished, but Serena settled for an apartment. She lived a quiet life there until recently, where circumstances have forced her to take drastic action. Despite that, she is still happy with her current lot in life.

Other:
