Family Statistics
Mother: Esperanta Panisto: Born approx. October 15, 1935 in Permesia, Donumia, Sigeard. Esperanta might have been a little flaky when younger, but her heart certainly was in the right place. She came to Selene when she was only eighteen. She has remained much the same in her later years, still seeming a little flaky and irresponsible, but she is quite sweet.
Father: Makhawon Prokellis: Born August 4, 1929 in Ilithyia, Selene. Makhawon was a businessman when younger, specialising in the export of olive oil. He lived comfortably but not too much. He has since retired, and has spent most of his retirement simply relaxing and spending time with his family. He was disappointed that Megalos chose not to go into the business, but was satisfied that he could pass the torch to his youngest son.
Sibling(s): Poulxeria Panisto: Born April 6, 1956 in Ilithyia, Selene. Poulxeria is a very sensible woman, and one who knows her priorities. It is such sensibility that allowed her to succeed; she works for the royal family in a relatively high-up position. She enjoys her work, but rarely allows herself to take breaks; as such, she rarely sees her family.
Glaukos Stomia (formerly Panisto): Born February 19, 1964 in Ilithyia, Selene. Glaukos is a business-oriented man, much like his father; he ‘inherited’ his business when his father retired. However, he also likes to give himself frequent breaks. He has a general disdain for the military, but does not begrudge his brother (much). He is married and has two children of his own.
Spouse: Chrysanthe Kyriaka: Born November 29, 1959. Chrysanthe is a very independent, intelligent woman and yet she possesses an egalitarian worldview which is rather odd for a woman of her position. She loves her family but finds it difficult to spend much time with them due to her and Megalos’ schedules. She is a tenured professor of Selenian History at the University of Ilithyia, and has written a number of ‘popular history’ books. Upon attaining tenure she began writing about ‘taboo’ topics and while this did not diminish her popularity she has found she has to be cautious, particularly amongst her fellow nobles and academics.
Children: Neaira Kyriaka: Born February 7, 1987. Neaira is an ambitious girl, having rubbed shoulders with royalty when younger, and is attempting to use this to get even further ahead in life, becoming close friends with a princess. As such, she has become rather arrogant, though she still submits to her parents’ will, however grudgingly.
Eurydike Kyriaka: Born August 24, 1990. Eurydike is a highly excitable girl, one who follows the latest fads. Unlike her sister, her noble birth is far less apparent; she has a fascination with Earth and Earth culture. She is frequently the butt of Neaira’s jokes, much to her irritation.
Iason (Jason) Kyriaka: Born September 4, 1992. Jason is very much like his father, being rather open-minded and accepting. He attends military school, and as such tries to pretend that this qualifies him to be ‘man of the house’ when his father is away.
Stephanos Kyriaka: Born January 9, 1996. Stephanos is your usual nine-year-old, energetic and playful, though easily intimidated. He is probably the only one in the household that actually goes along with Jason’s ‘man of the house’ routine, as he looks up to him.
Background
Although his immigrant mother had very little to her name, Makhawon, his father, had a good business and this kept the family afloat. Thusly when Megalos was born he was provided with a comfortable life. He started school when he was seven, but was nothing spectacular as far as schoolwork went; he was bright but not exceptionally so. When mandatory schooling finished at fourteen, Megalos didn’t know what to do with himself. His father encouraged him to try and get into the olive oil business, but the idea didn’t appeal to Megalos and so he drifted away from his family. A streak of aggressive behaviour emerged just after that and his disapproving mother had him sent off to military school.
It was there that he got himself kicked into shape by the instructors, and he found he liked it. By the time he graduated at eighteen, he thought he had himself figured out. Choosing to attend university, he studied to be a surgeon, enjoying the feeling of helping people; he found that his skills proved useful in both military and civilian fields.
When he was twenty-one he met Chrysanthe Kyriaka, a woman of a far higher class than him. He observed from afar for a while before deciding to make any move. She was polite, but distant; he later found out she already had a boyfriend and so backed out. Six months later, for reasons he didn’t understand, her and the boyfriend were no longer dating and he jumped on the opportunity, despite all the warnings he received that a woman of her class would have nothing to do with him.
Although their relationship was rather rocky at first, they got along immensely well, and he was just as pleased as she was when she agreed to marry him, despite protest from her family. They married when he was twenty-six, despite the fact that Chrysanthe’s mother had attempted to arrange a match between her and a more “respectable” suitor. It was there life finally seemed to quiet down, and not a moment too soon; early the following year, Neaira was born. Three years later, Eurydike was also born.
At the age of thirty, he was asked to leave for Earth with a government program, sending back data about language and culture. He complied, taking his two children and wife with him, and he lived in Virginia for four and a half years. He found the culture fascinating, and it was there he became fluent in English. Although Chrysanthe protested at her children being brought up in an alien environment when so young and impressionable, the fact that it was the government’s doing generally silenced her.
At thirty-eight, he decided to settle in a recently-established base on the Agyra Isles; he believed that having a medic over there would help. Chrysanthe did not want her children shuttled from planet to planet as he moved, but faced with spending five years without him or five years on another planet, she reluctantly chose the latter. It was difficult work; during this period that he tried to teach his children (and wife, occasionally) to respect other people; he felt that their raising in the upper levels of society was doing them harm, and he sought to correct that.
It backfired on him when after five years, they were all too eager to return to Selene. Feeling disappointed, he vowed to keep his family settled for once, as Eurydike was due to start secondary education soon. As a memento, he received a faux-tribal tattoo by the village’s specialist, much to his wife’s annoyance.
After that, his life once again returned to the relative quiet of the early years of his marriage, and he settled down in a relatively stable teaching position, instructing new recruits of the basics of field medicine, hoping that for once, his life can remain stable.
Other:
- In addition to his native Selenian, Megalos is fluent in English and moderately fluent in Agyrian; he only knows a smattering of Greek
